Kathy Blakeslee's passion for organic living, her desire to learn more about the healing ways of indigenous cultures, perrmaculture, healing with herbal remedies and going green for life inspired Kathy to start an organic herb farm as a hobby tucked away in the rolling hills of Baraboo, Wisconsin, dotted with primary artesian wells in the granite hill sides. Kathy was the former owner of Spring Valley Gardens Herb Gardens and was published nationally in numerous horticulture magazines and trade publications in the late 1980's and 90's.
This diverse herb farm featured over 300 unique varieties of medicinal and culinary herbs along with a cooking school with a unique garden store that inspired Kathy to then earn a degree as an herbalist and later to become a consultant, teacher and Ethno-Botanist. Spring Valley Gardens was featured in many national publications including being both on the covers of the professional trade journal 'Grower Talks' and 'Horticulture' magazines, this business has since been sold and Kathy then moved to California and has taught at the University of Santa Cruz and at Esalen Institute in Big Sur along with working and teaching at Smith and Hawken premier garden store in Mill Valley, CA and now has become an active member of Marin Organics. in the San Francisco Bay Area. Kathy and her husband Joe now spend part of their time in Baraboo, Wisconsin where she created an organic herb farm called Ashbury Herb Gardens and sells at the Dane Country Farmer's market at one of this country's largest Farmer's Market in Madison, Wisconsin where she has held a stall for over 20 years. Kathy also crafts her own medicinal healing ointments and salves and still excels in growing unigue and hard to find varieties of herbs both culinary and medicinal. The remainder of the year Kathy lives, teaches and is an organic consultant along with being a master herbalist in the San Francisco Bay Area, Kathy also travels worldwide with the Harmony Project llc. and is a phyto-medicine specialist. MISSION: My interest and enthusiasm is in healing, natural medicine and herbal alchemy started at an early age growing up with my grandmother in Provence, France. I helped her gather healing herbs in the wild that she then crafted into healing salves and ointments at her apothecary as she was known as the village healer or alternative doctor. Her teachings remain with me to this day. My passion is in continuing her legacy along with teaching her healing secrets and designing her alchemy gardens where she grew her healing herbs. |
